My husband came with his flat bed trailer, and the next day brought it to the Ford dealer where I bought it. Oil light came on and power steering left me I made it to the side of the road but not in a very safe place.
Called my husband on my cell and said "I think the car's dying" and it did about 5 minutes later. Power came back for a minute or two and then all of it repeated. Going up a hill all of a sudden lost power, heard a "thunk" noise and RPMs shot up. Just filled the tank before work at 8 am, then headed home about 4:15 pm. I am checking on this as there should have been a recall notice from Ford on this. The mechanic mentioned that we were lucky because it was very dangerous when the problem started, and the fuel pump could have burned and blown up and it could have been fatal. The mechanic gave the old fuel pump back because the old one had the connections melted where the plastic wire entered the fuel pump, and there was burned discoloration. We went to the Ford dealer got the fuel pump and the got it changed by our mechanic. The mechanic check the car out and found out it was the fuel tank. After that while driving to the auto shop the car died again and would not start at all, so had to get it towed to the auto shop. After waiting for help about 10 minutes, tried to start the car it started and drove home dropped of the family about 5 miles. Also checked the line and fuses, they were good. There was enough fuel in the car (above 1/4 tank) but the care would not start. On the main road while driving the car started to hesitate and seemed like it would stop then about a minute later the car died. We were going shopping with the family and in laws in the car. Replaced the fuel pump on my Ford Expedition EL.
